We have three different salmon species incubating in the hatchery this winter! Pink, Coho, and Chinook. Despite the highly variable water flows in the creek this winter, we have maintained a close eye on the fertilized eggs and they are now starting to hatch. Bill, the Hatchery Manager, is actively monitoring the growth of each species to ensure their development is timed to their release plans. This involves calculating their growth rate based on water temperature, adjusting the temperature of the water using a mix of well and creek water, and ensuring the eggs are regularly monitored to remove those that will not hatch.

The results of Bill’s hard work can be seen in this video, shot this week at the hatchery. Please enjoy!
