Paul Leroux – President

I am a former officer in the Canadian Army who served in Canada, Germany and the UK. I attended college in Victoria, at UVic and at Royal Roads Military College. After retiring from the Army I pursued a career as a technology leader in Canada, the Netherlands and the US. I returned to Canada from these adventures in 2005, in Calgary, where I was a Partner at Deloitte until I retired in 2018. Today, I live 500m away from the Chapman Creek Hatchery where I enjoy the many activities I can participate in to help enhance the salmon stocks in our ecosystem.

Evelyn Schimmel – Director

Hi, I’m Evelyn, and I have been a volunteer at the Hatchery for over ten years. I’m a retired high school languages teacher, I love gardening and have been a long-time volunteer at the Sunshine Coast Botanical Gardens. I also do the stage makeup for many of our local coast theatre productions.

Wendy Gunson – Director

Born in Vancouver, a Burnaby resident for over 30 years & retired to the Sunshine Coast with husband in 2014. Has been volunteering for 11 years at Chapman Creek Hatchery as a part of the Sunshine Coast Salmonid Enhancement Society.

Peter Doig – Director

Lynn Leroux – Director

I am retired and live just 500m from the Chapman Creek Hatchery. I love hiking and exploring the woods and coastlines of the Sunshine Coast, and I am a devoted fan of wildlife of any nature. I love working at the hatchery to help maintain and enhance the stocks of salmon that nourish the environment all around us. I am a detailed oriented person and I am happy to provide my assistance to the many tasks we need to accomplish to run a successful hatchery.

Valarie Best – Director

Valarie Best is a retired aviation professional from Shell Aviation with extensive experience in operations and leadership. She is passionate about supporting community initiatives and environmental stewardship. Married, Valarie enjoys fishing and gardening and is proud to contribute her experience and dedication to the Sunshine Coast Salmonid Enhancement Society.

Bill Krause – Executive Director / Hatchery Manager

Raised in Burnaby, with time spent living in Squamish and Cloverdale, and now based on the Sunshine Coast. Brings nearly 40 years of experience working in salmon hatcheries for DFO, mainly Capilano. Since March 2021, has served as Manager of the Chapman Creek Hatchery and Executive Director of the Sunshine Coast Salmonid Enhancement Society.
