- This cycle supports the growth and return of salmon year after year, contributing to sustainable populations.
Our Legacy
- 37 Years of Commitment: 2024 marks our 37th year as the Sunshine Coast Salmonid Enhancement Society.
- Chapman Creek Hatchery:
- Celebrating 32 years of operation.
- Purchased from Scanmar Seafoods, a commercial fish farm company, in 1992.
- Originally built in the early 1980s as a commercial freshwater incubation and juvenile rearing facility for salmon farming.

Saving the Salmon: A Collective Benefit
- Wildlife:
- Birds: Salmon are a vital food source for numerous bird species, especially during their migration and breeding seasons.
- Bears: Bears, particularly in regions like Alaska and British Columbia, rely heavily on salmon for sustenance, which is crucial for their survival and reproductive success.
- Human Communities:
- First Nations: Salmon hold cultural, spiritual, and subsistence importance for many First Nations communities. Ensuring healthy salmon populations supports their traditional harvest practices and food security.
- Sport Fishing: Recreational fishing industries thrive when salmon populations are abundant, attracting anglers and supporting local economies through tourism and related businesses.
Conclusion: Conserving salmon is not just about protecting a species; it’s about maintaining the intricate balance of ecosystems and supporting the diverse communities that depend on them. By saving the salmon, we ensure a healthy environment and sustainable benefits for all.
