THE SUNSHINE COAST SALMONID ENHANCEMENT SOCIETY IS ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS FOR SUMMER STUDENTS.

The positions below are for 2026 spring and summer employment – 1 of 3 positions are available as of March 2, 2026

JOB TITLE: Camp Leader (1 position is filled, 1 position is available)

Location: Chapman Creek Hatchery

Wage: $18.25 – $19/hour

Duration: 8 weeks + 2 days training/setup

Start Date: Thursday, July 2, 2026
End Date: Friday, Aug 28, 2026

Camp First Day: Monday, July 6, 2026
Camp Last Day: Friday, Aug 28, 2026

Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:30 am to 3:30 pm

The Sunshine Coast Salmonid Enhancement Society is looking for 1 paid Camp Leader to assist in the delivery of “Explore the Wild” Summer Day Camps at Chapman Creek Hatchery.  Campers will explore the local creek, forest, and ocean ecosystem through scientific investigation, exploration, outdoor games, and wilderness skill-building activities.

To qualify for one of these positions, you must be eligible to receive a Canada Summer Jobs Grant – be between the ages of 15 and 30 – pass a criminal record check.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Lead and supervise camp activities
  • Tracking camper attendance and communicating with parents
  • Set up and clean up the education building each day
  • Following guidelines to provide a safe and positive camp environment
  • Reporting to the camp director
  • Working as a team to provide the best possible experience for campers
  • Representing Sunshine Coast Salmonid Enhancement Society in a welcoming, friendly and professional manner

Qualifications:

  • Between the ages of 15 and 30
  • Experience in working with children, ages 7 to 11
  • Experience in leading hands-on activities
  • Knowledge of local ecology
  • Bring skills like fishing, shelter building, flying tying, video creation, crafting, and more!
  • First Aid tickets and or training is an asset
  • Previous camp experience is an asset

JOB TITLE: Camp Director / Assistant Hatchery Technician (position is filled)

Location: Chapman Creek Hatchery

Wage: $19 – $20/hour

Duration: Maximum of 16 weeks, minimum of 8 weeks

Start Date: Monday, May 4, 2026 (start day is flexible up to June 26th at the latest)
End Date: Friday, Aug 28, 2026

To qualify for this position, you must be eligible to receive a Canada Summer Jobs Grant – be between the ages of 15 and 30 – pass a criminal record check.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Camp Director – dutiesorganizing and dispersing the daily / weekly activities for the Camp Leaders to follow. You may be asked to help us hire the 2 Camp Leaders. You will fill in as a Camp Leader on the odd day if staff are unable to attend for any reason.
  • Hatchery Assistant Technician – duties – all aspects of hatchery operations as required during your employment period, May / June to the end of August. Occasional weekend work will be required. Daily checking the fish rearing tanks – recording temperatures, mortalities and cleaning screens. Feeding fish, weighing out fish food and feeding as per schedule.
  • Basic office administration skills, some office work will be required for record keeping, knowledge of Word, Excel and Google Doc’s is an asset.
  • Working with our volunteers. Maintaining public relations, conducting hatchery tours and answering any questions the visitors have. Representing the Sunshine Coast Salmonid Enhancement Society in a welcoming, friendly and professional manner.
  • Maintenance and upkeep of hatchery grounds and infrastructure, housekeeping of the workshop, lunchroom, washrooms, storage areas, education building, office and incubation building.
  • Safety awareness at all times. First Aid tickets and or training is an asset.
  • Sound physical fitness is necessary due to the physical component of hatchery and groundskeeping work.
  • Preference will be given to students enrolled into any of these fieldsenvironmental / biological / fisheries / childcare / educational (or related studies to any of these listed).
  • Driver’s license and vehicle is an asset but not necessary.
